Just watched the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows trailer again. I want to see this movie now like burning. LIKE BURNING I SAY. And I'm not even much of a movie goer, so that's saying something! I guess that's one reason to try and pry myself out of the house soon then.

Hard to believe that the franchise really is finally coming to an end though. And to think that I used to scoff at it's popularity and wonder what people saw in it. LOL, I'm kinda stupid sometimes. ^_^;

So, just got back from seeing Avatar. It wasn't something I really had a desire to see going in, but it ended up being pretty good and I really enjoyed it. They did a fantastic job with the CGI and making the world and all the alien life look real. The 3D was good too, although I wasn't blown away by it or anything. I dunno, while I was watching it I kept thinking there would be a bit more 3Dness than there actually was, if that makes any sense. But thinking about it on the car ride home and even now, I guess I have to say that it really did look better in 3D than it probably would have if it was a regular 2D movie.

Heh, I wasn't expecting to see Ana Lucia in there though. I thought she seemed familiar, but I couldn't quite place her until my mom reminded me. Then I was like 'Oh yeah!'. ^^;

Just got back from seeing Half Blood Prince today. I really liked it a lot. The transitions between scenes was a bit sudden sometimes, but I thought they did a pretty good job in trying to fit in all the important plot points while still keeping some humor as well. I especially liked the scene at the cave. It was just as creepy and disturbing as in the book. And even though I knew it was going to happen, I still jumped when the dead people came out of the water. ^^; Dumbledore using the fire spell was really cool looking too.

I do wish they could have included more of the Pensieve scenes about Voldemort's past, but I guess you can't have everything. I'm certainly looking forward to the last two movies. :)

Y'know, I'm not really one to put things down before they're ever even made and I try my best to stay positive. But when I happened across this today, my first reaction was "Oh no, no, no... Nobody could ever possible be Agent 86 other than Don Adams." Get Smart has always been one of my favorite shows, and the idea of remaking it now, even as a movie, just seems so... wrong, somehow. I dunno... I just can't help but be a bit nervous.

The Golden Compass movie, on the other hand, looks like it's shaping up to be very, very pretty. From looking at the few pictures there, it looks like they've managed to capture the feel of Lyra's world fairly well. And it looks like they've cast the new 007, Daniel Craig, as Lord Asriel, too. Interesting. The only other name on the cast list I recognize is Nicole Kidman as Mrs. Coulter. I wonder if she'll be able to pull off the creepiness of the character? I really like the design of the website, too. They've even got an alethiometer that shows the various meanings for the symbols. Cool.

I can't help but wonder whether they're going to do the other two books as well, and if so, what they're going to do about the "ZOMG Organized religion is evil!" theme. The first book is actually fairly light on that theme, IIRC, so they can probably get by without really mentioning it. The others though... hoo boy.

Ehh, anyway, I haven't been doing much lately. Just avoiding the internet in general because I haven't been feeling very social. I did join a couple of bookswapping services though, Bookmooch and Title Trader. I ended up getting 12 requests for books within hours of signing up, so it's been a pretty good way of getting rid of some of the books I had that I didn't want to keep. :) The only real downside is that it's kind of hard to find any books I'd like to request from others, since I think most books available are probably the more popular mainstream kinds, like romance novels or Anne Rice or whatever. I did manage to find a couple of things, though.

So, I went out with my relatives last night to see the new James Bond movie. I've never actually been much of a Bond fan, mainly because all the political spy stuff goes right over my head and the movies usually drop you into middle of the action at the beginning without explaining what the heck is going on. This movie wasn't any different, so I spent most of it being horribly confused about who the heck all of these bad guys were and what they were trying to do. Still, it's a pretty good movie. The chase scenes are all very exciting, and I think the new guy (I think his name is Daniel Craig?) does a good job as Bond. I enjoyed it. :)

And before we went to the movie, my brother invited everyone over to his house to see his new videogame system, the Nintendo Wii. He got our parents, who haven't played a video game since the days of the Atari 2600, and our aunt and uncle to play the Wii Sports game, and they really enjoyed it. The controllers for the system are so easy to use and intuitive that anyone can get into it easily. I bet my grandparents would have liked to play it too, if they were still alive today. Especially Nani, since she used to play PacMan all the time and had a higher score at it than anyone else in the family. I bet she would have loved the Wii bowling game. :)

The weather here has finally turned cold again after feeling like spring for a week, and everyone in the neighborhood has their Christmas decorations out. Except for us, because we're apparently slow like that. Personally, I wish the year would just hurry up and end already. I always get depressed and sluggish at this time of year, and I'm tired of it. And it's not really helping my mood that my current part-time job is so frustrating and draining. I'm just so tired all the time lately that I'm having a hard time keeping up with anything. I've actually been having a hard time keeping up with my LiveJournal friendslist for months now, and it's only gotten worse lately. I feel like such a horrible LJ acquaintance for not really commenting on anyone's posts for so long. :(

Just wanted to say thank you to whoever it was who mentioned me in [livejournal.com profile] sandy_s's Love Meme post. That was very sweet of you, and totally took me by surprise. I'm bluhing now. :)

I went to see March of the Penguins last night with my parents. Baby penguins! Eeee! So cute! I've seen things about penguins before on tv, but I hadn't ever seen a story about the mating journey of emporer penguins, which is what the movie is about. I never knew they had it so rough, going for months without food and surviving all those Antartic storms while trying to incubate eggs. Everyone should definitely go to see it, it's really quite fascinating and the cinematography and music are very pretty. And did I mention the baby penguins? :)

Since I'm bored, I think I'll copy [livejournal.com profile] sweet_ali and do the 'guess the movie' meme. Although mine probably won't be too difficult since I don't watch as many movies as most other people do. Heh.

1. Pick 10 movies that mean a lot to you and choose one cap from each movie.
2. Post those caps in your LJ and screen all comments.
3. YOUR FRIENDS HAVE TO GUESS WHICH MOVIES YOU CHOSE!
4. No looking at my user info or cheating in any other way, you don't have to comment with all 10 titles!

And away we go! )

That was fun. :) And a lot harder to narrow it down to just ten than I thought it would be. I was going to put Star Wars in there somewhere, but I couldn't think of any scene that wouldn't immediately give away what it was to anyone who hasn't been hiding under a rock for the past 20 years. Also, please forgive those stupid purple lines in #10. I still don't have a DVD drive for my computer and that's the best I could get from WebTV. :(

It's also possible that we may be getting a kitten this weekend. Mom and I are going to go and look at the very least. I hope we'll find one. *crosses fingers*

::waves to [livejournal.com profile] sweet_ali:: Hello there! I've got to say that I was really very surprised to see that you had friended me, since you're a rather popular poster and I'm pretty much a total unknown. Not that I'm complaining, though. It's actually a funny coincidence. I've been lurking pretty regularly at your journal for awhile now, and I was just thinking recently that I should go ahead and friend you. :)

Anyway, in other news, my ATS Season 5 Spike action figure finally came this month. Now Australian!Buffy won't have to be so lonely. :) Although she did at least have Giles and Bunny!Anya to keep her company. ActionFigure!Spike comes with a rather interesting choice of accessories, though. There's the amulet and the Cup of Perpetual Mountain Dew, of course, but they also included some things from BtVS like the cross from 'Beneath You', the giant goggles from 'Spiral', and the Kiss the Librarian mug. My favorite thing though? They also gave him a kitten for kitten poker. Hee! That's just awesome!

I've also been extremely happy this week because Disney has finally released my favorite animated movie ever, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, to DVD. Damn well took them long enough. They bought the rights to the Miyazaki movies years ago, but they're certainly taking their sweet time in releasing them. I had just about given up all hope of ever getting a good quality copy of the film and resigned myself to be contented with my crappy bootleg version, when I found out by chance that it was being released this month. So of course I bought it the day it hit the stores. :) Patrick Stewart is the voice of Lord Yupa! Hee! Awesome! And Mark Hamill is in there, too! He's a really great voice actor. I'll never forget how astonished I was when I found out that he was also the voice of the Joker on the animated Batman series. :) The dub was really very good, and I'm glad to see that they stuck closely to the original dialouge. It was kind of strange watching it, though, because I was comparing it in my head to both the original dub from the 80's and the Japanese version at the same time.

Oh, and also GIP! Have I mentioned how much I love that shot?

Okay, I'm going to shut up now.

Oh my God!

There's a map of Sunnydale on e-bay! And the bidding has gone over $400! Clothing, schmothing. Who cares about that when you could have something as cool as this? I desperately want it, but my bank account is going to hate me if I bid on it. Damn. Why can't I be rich and have the money to throw around on stuff like this like other people do?

Cutting away for Spider-Man 2 spoilers )

Ahh... Another lovely day today. I really wish that every day could be like this. It's so nice not to have all that oppressive humidity for a change. :P

We went to see Shrek 2 last night as an early Father's Day present. I think I might like it even better than the first movie. I won't spoil anything of course, but there were certain parts that had me practically rolling in the aisles I was laughing so hard. The other half of the time I was busy drooling over all the pretty, pretty animation. Yes, I am an animation whore. :) There was also a trailer for a movie I'd really like to see called 'The Two Brothers', which is about two tiger cubs who get adopted by people. I love watching big cats, they're so cool.

Y'know, it's a good thing I have over a month to work on my [livejournal.com profile] summer_of_spike entry because these wallpapers are kicking my ass. I've already decided on three of the screencaps I want to use for one, but I need two more and I can't decide for the life of me what else I want to use. It also doesn't help that I'm trying to go with caps that aren't used quite so often but are still nice. *sighs* Hopefully it won't take me too long to sort it all out.
