*sighs* I really suck at time-management lately. Well, to be honest I always suck at time management, but it seems to be worse than usual as of late. I haven't quite been able to get the hang of this working at home thing yet. It's far easier to get distracted than I thought, or to just say 'Ah, screw it. I don't feel like working any more today" when I've only worked for a couple of hours. And if I give up in the afternoon and tell myself that I'll come back to it later in the evening, I never do. I obviously suck. :p

Changing subjects abruptly... Serenity in 4 more days! Yay! Although, ummm, I have to confess that I have yet to watch any of the tv show past the pilot episode even though I've had the DVDs since, like, last year. This is actually pretty much par for the course for me. For some reason, I seem to buy dvds more just for the sake of having them, so that I know they'll be there just in case I ever do want to watch them. Which may or may not ever actually happen. But I am going to try and watch the rest of Firefly by Friday.

Boy, this post is boring and I'm tired. Going to bed now. Still have comments I haven't replied to. I'll try to do that tomorrow.

Bullet list because I can't think of any good way to transition between subjects:

  • So, there's yet another Serenity screening and odds are I won't be able to go to this one either. Looks like it's going to be on a Thursday, which probably means it will be at night again, and I really don't want to have to drive 2 hours all the way down to Norfolk and then another 2 back late at night on a freaking weekday. Why can't they show it on a weekend afternoon? For that matter, why couldn't they have just shown it in Richmond, damnit? Stupid Norfolk. :p

  • [livejournal.com profile] fer1213's recent post about trying to buy Mulder and Scully Barbies off of eBay put me in the mood to go looking for some things, too, since I like Barbies a lot. In fact, I just bought a NASCAR Barbie. She can represent my dad and Grandad, who are long time racing fans, just like my Bowling Barbie represents my Nani and uncle. :) I also want the Morning Sun, Evening Star, and Midnight Moon Barbies just because they're very pretty and I like their outfits. Oh, and also a Polish Barbie, since that's where my great-grandparents were from.

  • Strangely, it seems that every time I complain about my lack of creativity, I suddenly end up getting an idea for something. Sadly, it wasn't for any wallpapers or icons, but I did come up with a new layout for my site. Not anywhere close to finished putting it together yet, but I was just wondering if anyone thinks that this looks too busy or not? Maybe I should remove the lens flare, since it's obviously not something you'd find in space. Heh.

I just read on Whedonesque that the release date for the Firefly movie has been pushed back to September 30. Man, that really sucks. You'll have to scroll down a little to find the actual comment from Joss because he apparently doesn't know how to start new threads.

Can I just say how much I admire [livejournal.com profile] asta77 and [livejournal.com profile] molly_may's big brains and reasoning skills, and those of everyone else who has participated in their threads too? There are a lot of scarily smart people in this fandom, which is why I love it so much whenever these Buffy discussions crop up. Although it's also one of my biggest regrets that I can't get more involved with the discussion. I'm not a very quick thinker, so usually by the time I come up with something to say, someone else has already said it far better than I could or the conversation has moved on to other topics. But just reading along is certainly fun, too. :)

So anyway, I just finished watching the first episode of Firefly today. Wow. Way to drop us right into the action without any warning, Joss. Actually, I'm still confused about what the heck is going on in those opening scenes. Who were they fighting against and why? Am I supposed to already know the answer to this or will it be explained later on in the show? There was so much going on in this episode that I can't even remember all of it. But I'm definitely interested in finding out what's going to happen next, and I like all the characters already. I can even remember all their names and who does what on the ship. :)

I really like the atmosphere of the show, too. It's a nice change of pace from Star Trek, where everything is always clean, bright, shiny, and orderly. In Firefly, everything is darker and more industrial looking and well-used, but not precisely shabby. And as much as I love Star Trek, I think I like the industrial look better. It's also really odd not to be able to hear the ships making any noise when they're in space. I'm so used to all the whooshing and whizzing that the Enterprise does that to see the Serenity flying along silently with only background music and no sound effects kind of threw me the first couple of times. But it also makes more sense, since space is a vacuum after all and everyone knows that sound doesn't travel in a vacuum.

The humor doesn't seem to be quite as obvious as it is on Buffy and Angel, but there were quite a few funny parts. I think my favorite was the bit with Wash and the dinosaurs near the beginning. And Jayne is pretty funny in a not-too-bright-a-guy kind of way. :) And I'm not to certain if this was an oversight or not, but it amused me how Mal told the passengers early on that the bridge and cargo bay were off limits without supervision and then for the rest of the show it seemed like the passengers kept wandering on down to the cargo bay whenever they felt like it.
