New layout. Yay. Didn't feel like doing anything fancy, so it's pretty simple.

Searching for a new job sucks. Especially when you're extremely introverted and hate the idea of having to deal with the public or answering the phone.

My dad just turned 60 a few days ago. Hard to believe he's that old already. We had his birthday party at my brother's new house, which he just bought recently. They haven't moved in yet, so there was no furniture or anything, so everyone just folding chairs over and we set them up in the living room. It's a really nice house with a two car garage and a finished room with a pool table over top that. Yes, the pool table came with the house, which is kinda ironic because my brother had been searching for a place that could accomadate the pool table that's already in the basement of my parent's house. So now he ends up with two instead of just one. :)

Well, I just got back from Dragon*Con today and I had a really great time! I got to meet LeVar Burton and Marina Sirtis and got their autographs, and I even got my picture taken with LeVar! I don't think I've ever mentioned it here before, but I'm a huge fan of Star Trek: The Next Generation so getting to see them was a big thrill for me. I also got Adam Baldwin's autograph just a few minutes before he had to leave to catch a plane, so I'm glad I didn't wait until Monday to do that or I would have missed him entirely. Those were the main three I had wanted going in to the con, but I also ended up getting Dean Haglund's autograph when I bought the DVD of his Sunday night improv show and went to pick it up from him on Monday. And after passing by the table several times on my way out of the dealers area on Sunday, I finally noticed that the artist Jason Palmer was there. I don't know if anyone else remembers him, but there was a link to his Firefly painting at Whedonesque months ago. I mentioned in a post months ago how I would love to have a copy of that painting and now I do, complete with his signature. Funny how wishes do come true sometimes. :)

The Star Trek and Firefly panels I went to were all very interesting and entertaining, but it didn't even occur to me to take any notes so I guess I can't say too much more about them. Dean Haglund's improv show was hilarious and I was laughing so hard that tears started coming out. I also went to see the costume parade on Saturday morning, but since I wasn't exactly sure where it was taking place I ended up following a group of people in costumes from the hotel all the way down the street several blocks to a park, which was the starting point. There were all sorts of great costumes there, from Star Trek, Star Wars, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, anime shows, and lots more, and there were some actors riding in it as well, like the guy who played Denethor in Return of the King. What surprised me the most, though, was the squad of Cobra Vipers at the head of the parade, complete with flag, and Destro and the Baroness. Wonder how come there weren't any Joes, though?

I was also very happy to get to meet [livejournal.com profile] fer1213, [livejournal.com profile] sdwolfpup, [livejournal.com profile] molly_may, [livejournal.com profile] asta77, and Fer's sister and hang out with them for a couple of days. Although I have to apologize for being so quiet. I hope I didn't come across as being cold or anything, because that definitely wasn't my intention. I thought maybe since I've talked to most of you online regularly that it would be easier to do in person than is usual for me, but I had an attack of insecurity and was afraid I might come across as a nuisance. I really wish that hadn't been the case. :(

ETA: Also, a very belated 'Happy Birthday!' to [livejournal.com profile] aycheb, [livejournal.com profile] sweet_ali, [livejournal.com profile] sdwolfpup, and Mbaby. I really need to remember to look at that birthday list thing more often. *sighs*

Well, okay, so it's actually not until Monday but close enough. We had the party tonight, though. I'm not really much of a party person, but it's always good to see the rest of the family. And Ashley stole the show again, like she always does. Two year olds are just so funny to watch. Well, as long as they're not your own, at least, and someone else has to take them home at the end of the day. :D

So anyway, most of the presents were pretty practical: money for the trip and new clothes, including a couple of dresses. I'm definitely not a dress person, but I could always use them as bathing suit cover-ups I guess. And also a Barnes and Noble gift card, 'cause all my relatives know how much I love to read. I also got the Spiderman tv series DVD from Brian, which was cool because I hadn't even known that was out yet. That was a great show, although it sucks that there was only one season of it. Hopefully they'll make another one after the second movie comes out. *crosses fingers*

It's kinda hard to believe that I've made it to the end of my twenties. Next year, I'll be 30. Gah! Oh wait, that's right, I won't. Mom and Dad have forbidden me to get any older. They say they're not old enough to have any 30 year old kids. ^o^
