...Why is it snowing when it's supposed to be Spring? It's not really very much, just a dusting, but it's still weird to go from fairly warm weather one week to suddenly being cold enough for snow the next.

All the poor plants must be confused now though. And the flowers were just starting to bloom too. I hope this doesn't kill them off. :(

So I thought that icon meme going around looked like fun, so I went and did it too. There are blank spaces though because I don't really have any icons that could count as flaily, clever, or celebrities. :\

How many icons do you have total? 45

How many can you have? 50

If you could buy space for more, would you? I dunno, maybe. I think I've got enough for now though.

Do your icons make a statement about you? That I like video games and anime a lot?

What fandom do you have the most icons out of? Kingdom Hearts, mainly because Birth by Sleep ate my brain. >.>

The second most? Buffy the Vampire Slayer, strangely enough. I've still got four icons from it and I haven't been in that fandom for years.

What ship do you have the most icons out of? I have more BbS friendship icons than anything else, really.

Break down your icons for us. Err, break them down how exactly? I guess I tend to focus more on stuff from videogames or anime/manga than live action, if that's what you mean. I also have not really come across many non-fandom icons that I like.

How do you categorize your icons? How do I identify them, you mean? I just tend to use a couple of words that will let me know what the icon is about when I see them in my list, and then the name of the icon maker in the field under that. Nothing fancy or catchy because I suck at coming up with interesting keywords.

Are your icons mostly made by other users? By other people. I've made some myself that I still use, but I was never as good at it as a lot of other people are.

Animated icons are... Fun. :)

I tag: No one, because my friends list is super tiny. If there's anyone who hasn't done it and wants to, go right on ahead.

Oh my...

I just came across this fanart today. It's, um, rather hot... )

*sigh* Why is there always so much more good fanart than good fanfic? Is writing really that much harder than drawing? I wouldn't know since I can't really do either. :\

I've been very slow in playing this game for some reason. I don't really know why. I mean, it's fun to play and all but... yeah, I have no idea why I keep putting it off. Oh well.

So anyway, finally beat that Wonderland boss awhile back. Now that was a truly bizarre fight. o.O He ended up having three stages, the first two were pretty much the same but once you get to the third that when things really go wonky. Quite literally, since the action on the screen will suddenly turn sideways and upside down and down becomes up and up becomes down. Of course only in Wonderland would this ever happen. -_-; Made for a pretty crazy boss fight but I finally managed to get it after several tries.

I think the cutscene after this world was back to Mickey and the others who were trapped in the library and couldn't get out for some reason, and also Heartless had somehow appeared in the castle. Which of course shouldn't have been possible as long as the Cornerstone of Light was still working. But anyway, on the computer screen Sora had chased off after the mysterious person in the Organization coat and suddenly there's a banging on the library door. And then, Sora bursts into the room... Wait, what?! o.O

Mickey and everyone are more than a little surprised because Sora is made of data and therefore should not be there at all, but suddenly the Organization guy appears and reveals himself to be... Riku?! Hunh, I did not see that one coming at all...

But it turns out that this isn't the real Riku either, he's apparently actually the personification of Jimminy's journal, created to protect the data from the bugs that invaded it. And he tells them that he transported all of them into the journal to help, which would explain why Mickey and the gang couldn't leave the room and where those Heartless came from. Because they weren't in the real world anymore. But then Riku discovers that someone from the outside is interfering with things and he can't send Mickey, Donald and Goofy back. So the only thing to do is keep going on and trying to get rid of more bugs, so Sora heads off to the next world which ends up being Olympus Coliseum.

... I think Olympus is one of the only worlds to have been in every KH game to date. >.> Radiant Garden might be another, but I don't remember if that's actually in Chain of Memories or not.

Anyway, the bugs here have turned the Coliseum into a maze and Herc apparently went in there and got himself lost. So Sora tells Phil he'll go get him out, which Phil is rather skeptical of.

The new gimmick once you get in the maze is that the battle system has now turned into Final Fantasy-esque turn-based combat. You also get... umm, I forget what they're called but they're basically like power up items you can use to boost your defense, attack, auto block, heal over time in battle, etc. You can also press A at the right time during combat to attack more than once or Y at the right time to block attacks. It's a pretty simplified system so it's not too hard to get the hang of.

Bleh, I'm still sick so I think I'll just stop there.
the_abcs_of_justice: (headdesk)
Dear Mom,

Please stop sending things to me at work to print for you. You don't do it a whole lot, but it's still annoying considering the fact that you are retired and therefore have all day long to take your damn printer somewhere to get it fixed. It hasn't been working for months now and yet you still haven't done anything at all about it. Why?!

I, on the other hand, still have to work 40 hours a week. I'm tired when it's time to go home and quite frankly the chances of me actually remembering to print the thing out for you and bring it with me at that point are slim to none. With the way my memory is, I will completely forget about it until the moment I pull in the driveway and then I want to shoot myself because I know you'll ask about it. :\

So in conclusion, you would have had the paper in your hand by now if you had just fixed the printer.

But today is not that day. :p

Actually, I was going to post a rant about some character bashing I heard the other day and how much it annoyed me but then I was too tired to actually do so. So instead I took my anger out by drawing a stupid picture that doesn't actually have anything to do with what I was angry about.

Umm, yeah... ^^; Like I said, this is just a stupid idea I've actually had in my head for awhile now. It came about when I happened to see a LJ user with the name [ profile] universejuice and misread it as "unversedjuice". And I was like, "Why would anyone want to make juice out of Unversed?"

My brain works in strange ways sometimes. >.>

*is bored and randomly looking at the SquareEnix online shop*

Sidebar: Dear Terra, at last you are available for purchase in Trading Arts form...

Me: Whoawhoawhoa wait, what?!

*clicks on link*

Me: Oh, her. Way to get my hopes up there, guys. Damn it. ;~;

Yeah, they were talking about FF6's Terra in Dissidia not BbS!Terra. Dagnabbit, who the heck do I have to bribe to get some Birth by Sleep figures up in here? :\

The lack of any KH merchandise at all on the site is worrying me though. Not that they had a whole lot there to begin with, but at least it was something. I dunno, maybe they did it because the fandom seems to be dying out slowly. Which makes me rather sad, but I guess as long as they keep making games that ought to be enough...
the_abcs_of_justice: (brain break)
Geez, as if my excitement after watching the 3DS and BBS:FM videos wasn't enough, now there are videos out for the No Heart and Eraqus arena battles as well as the playable footage from the Secret Episode. Since I can't possible keep up with the explosion of talk that's happened on the forums, I'll just blab about my own reaction here. ^^;

So, Secret Episode seems to be mostly just Aqua running around in the RoD and fighting Heartless. Not particularly interesting to watch someone else do it, but it would probably be pretty cool if I was playing it myself. But holy crap, when that thing with the freaky red eyes showed up it really creeped me out! Especially when we see Aqua through it's eyes and it's all freaky and red and distorted and creepy.... o.O What the hell was that thing anyway? When it finally came out in the open, I don't think it really looked like any Heartless we've seen before...

The No Heart fight is... pretty damn epic looking. This guy seems like the equivalent of fighting Terra, Master Xehanort, Xemnas, and Ansem all at the same time, with some Lingering Sentiment thrown in for good measure. All while a combination of Forze de Mal and The Darkness of the Unknown is playing in the background. He's got Dark Volley and loves to abuse Dash and Sonic Impact, he can throw storms of keyblades at you and apparently transforms his Keyblade into several different things. He also does kicks and pools of darkness and ground slams and God only knows what else. o.O

Honestly, I really hope that they'll bring him back in KH3 as one of Xehanort's final forms. 'Cause that would be super awesome and epic.

The fight with Master Eraqus' armor looks pretty awesome too. The music there is basically a more epic version of the happy playful music from the tutorial when Ven was attacking those rings on his way to the summit. He can shoot out chains like the ones on the Land of Departure castle and of course still has his light attacks, although they look much bigger than the ones we've seen before. Actually, the way the beams of light move around in one of them kind of makes it look like he's doing some kind of strobe light performance instead of trying to kill you. ^^; He also glows different colors sometimes, although I'm not quite sure what that does. And at one point it looked like he summoned a tornado... So yeah, pretty cool. :)

I wonder sometimes whatever happened to my ability to write coherently. I've been looking back through some of my old, old posts recently and it almost feels like I was smarter back then and have gotten stupider as time goes on. I mean, not saying I was ever some kind of genius in writing or anything, but it just feels so much more awkward now every time I post and I'm not really sure how that happened. Maybe I just don't talk enough and I've gotten rusty?

I dunno... it's not like it's even really all that important, but it still bothers me a bit. My spelling also seems to be going downhill rapidly. The number of typos I've had to fix in just these few sentences... Oy. -_-

Also, iTunes Shuffle Meme. Just because I feel like it )

...Apparently my iPod doesn't know the meaning of the word "shuffle". ROFL.
the_abcs_of_justice: (silhouette)
I'm only at the end of Wonderland right now, but man these worlds seem to take quite a long time. It felt like I was running around in Traverse Town forever too. ^^; I'm actually rather enjoying it though, just because the levels are all so different from each other and each time you go into one of the debugging portals there's something new to do there. They introduce different blocks that do different things, like green ones that turn transparent or blocks that explode when you touch them or ones that you can bounce on. And then they started introducing challenges where you have to wager some of the points you earn too. For instance, one of them is to kill a certain number of Heartless, and if you pass the challenge then you get extra points as a reward, but if you don't then you don't get anything. Keeps it interesting I guess. :)

All my time in Traverse Town was basically spent just looking for Huey, Dewey, and Louie and then they give me these strange block things that turned into a keyhole when they were put together. Mysterious Organization Guy who's been hanging around gave me one too. So Sora does his thing on the keyhole and runs through the door that opens and suddenly we're... in a sidescroller game? I love what Sora says here though: "What just happened?! I feel... flat." XD

I completely suck at sidescrollers though. I lost track of how many times I fell into pits or got gobbled up by the ever moving screen when I was too slow. :\ And you also can't use any of your regular moves either, but instead can collect crystals that allow you to do certain special moves. Those only have a limited number of charges though, and you can only have one at a time. I think I died once when fighting the Guard Armor at the end, but he wasn't too bad overall. Just Dodge Roll when he jumps, block if he shoots his hands at you and stay out of the way of the massive energy beam of doom.

In Wonderland, everyone seems to have lost their memories due to the bugs and so Sora has to go around finding them so Alice will remember where she saw the keyhole at. Also the hedge mazes from Days have returned, along with having to sneak past the guards. :\ I finally got a Cure spell from one of the bug portals there though, so at least that's something. :)

I only managed to find 14 out of 16 memories, but apparently you don't need all of them to get Alice to remember where the keyhole is because I was able to move on to the next area. But there's no chance to save after you start talking to her though... Anyway, it was in the birdcage in the Queen's courtroom, and after I went in it turned into... well, I'm not sure how to describe it really. It's kinda like you're constantly running forward on a track while enemies come in from behind you. You can move to the left and right, jump, and also Shotlock them (they don't call it that but it's totally what it is xD). Again, can't use any of your normal moves in this, only the crystals you collect.

And then that annoying accordian Heartless who's name I always forget shows up at the end. I haven't been able to kill him yet because he keeps hitting me with stupid fireballs and I can't heal myself. :( I finally just gave up, so I guess I'll have to do the whole thing over again tomorrow. Bleh.

My copy of Re: Coded came today and I was just playing for awhile until my battery ran out. And something occurred to me, which I'm sure is nothing new. I'm rather slow after all. ^^

So the first platform in Sora's Station of Awakening in both KH1 and this game is a picture of Snow White. Dwarf Woodlands was the first world Ven visited, where he met Snow White. And it's green, which is Ven's color. Yeah, I just think it's really neat that something as minor as this has more meaning now since BbS. :) Plus, I think that the mysterious voice Sora heard there in the original game was Ven's.

Anyway, I haven't really gone further than the first world so far in Coded but it seems pretty decent so far. I'm happy to have a Command Deck again. :) The Skill Tree thing is a bit confusing to me right now, but maybe I'll get it as I play more. The level up system is pretty much the same as Days I think, where you have to equip your levels, only now they're chips that you plug into a circuit board.

Not too much to say about the story yet. Since we're rediscovering the lost data in Jimminy's original journal digitally, it stands to reason that it's pretty much a rehash of the worlds in KH1. Destiny Islands was first, and then everything broke apart just as it did when the Heartless came and Sora ended up in Traverse Town. With Pluto waking him up again. ^^

One thing that's different though is that instead of using little portraits to express emotions during text dialog, like in Days and CoM, the characters appear in full body stills against a background and they change as the action plays out. I just thought that was an interesting way of doing it.
the_abcs_of_justice: (RAGESPLOSION)
Personally, I fail to see how, while knowing Vanitas was out to get Ventus, leaving Ven behind when he finally wanted to come with her shows that Aqua's acting with Ven's interest in mind. If she wanted to protect him so much, then not taking him back to LoD, but staying with him, wouldn't that have been the best course of action? I realize it was done for the sake of the individual character gameplay but regardless, Aqua left Ven behind when she needed to stay by his side the most. It paints her in a bad light, both with the concern for his safety as well as how she sees Ven

Aqua on the other hand steps beyond the line of being over protective. She's suffocating and that also shows how she sees Ven - she doesn't believe in him. I mean, he survived up to that point and helped you and Terra take down that huge Unversed, didn't he? Can't you believe he'll manage just a bit on his own without you holding his hand?

... So Aqua is a bad person for not staying with Ven and protecting him and yet she also needs to stop smothering him and give him space to manage on his own. I just... what? These are two completely opposite viewpoints! I guess in this chick's mind Aqua is damned if she does, damned if she doesn't. Lovely.

I also love how she's basically complaining about Aqua leaving Ven behind at RG and yet conveniently ignores the fact that Terra did the exact same thing. And it's probably worse in his case because at this point in the game he's the only one of the three of them who knows that Vanitas was created out of Ven. But I guess it's a-okay to do that if you're a guy and horrible if you're a woman. Or something.

Bah. I really should know better than to read any post this chick makes. She always gets on my nerves and her arguments rarely ever make any sense at all, at least IMO. I mean, there's nothing wrong with not liking a character but her reasons for not liking certain characters just don't seem to have any real basis in the actual facts of the games. She seems to just completely misunderstand stuff and twist it to her own liking, and then never actually admit it if someone points out to her how exactly she is wrong...

Urgh, alright, I'm done. I guess it's not really nice of me to go on bitching about other fans. :\

Came very close to rage-quitting WoW entirely last night, after their completely worthless excuse for a random Dungeon Finder put me into Stonecore three effing times in a row. Never mind that there are other dungeons that I'm eligible for. Of course it can't pick one of those. No, every damn time I queue myself it's always like "LOLSTONECORE LOLSTONECORE LOLSTONECORE LOLSTONECORE". I hate that place so much.

So yeah, add to that the fact that I have to wait 15 to 20 minutes for a normal dungeon as a healer and it's pretty much killing my enjoyment of the game. I'm almost to 85, but I'm not sure whether I even want to bother at all or not anymore. I'm probably just going to stop doing dungeons at all, which is a shame because some of the few others I've managed to get into seem pretty cool. Vortex Pinnacle in particular is the prettiest dungeon they've ever done, I think.

But I just don't think I can do it anymore. Because if I get Stonecore one more time, I'm going to have to kill somebody. B(

I just found out tonight from my dad that someone in our extended family died suddenly. I didn't know him very well and only saw him maybe a couple of times a year whenever there were birthday parties or holidays at my aunt's house. But I still thought he was a pretty nice guy and he was always friendly to me so this is just such a shock...

It's even worse that his mother was the one to find his body... I don't think anyone knows yet what the actual cause of death was. There's supposed to be an autopsy at some point. From what my dad told me though about the events leading up to finding him, it seems like he might have just gone to sleep and never woken up. He has a wife and a young son too... I can only imagine how they must be feeling right now. :(

It's just... scary when this sort of thing happens to someone who wasn't even that old I guess. I don't know if he had any medical problems, but he always seemed pretty healthy to me. And for it to happen with Christmas only a few weeks away... I just feel so badly for that side of the family now.

... For someone who loves to read, the actual number of books I've read this year is pathetic. :\ I don't even know why I still keep these lists since it's obvious by this point that I'm never actually going to read 50 in one year, but I keep thinking that maybe one of these days it'll happen. Ah well, it's something to do I guess.

1. Grimm's Fairy Tales by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm
2. True Richmond Stories: Historic Tales from Virginia's Capital by Harry Kolatz, Jr.
3. The Last Continent by Terry Prachett
4. Victory of Eagles by Naomi Novik
5. Are YOU Dave Gorman? by Dave Gorman and Danny Wallace

Total # read since 2006: 61

... Wow, this day was awful. Seventy-six damn articles to xerox and mail tonight and who ended up having to do it? Me. Not to mention that there was an issue to go out to the customer today and yet somehow the team had managed to forget about it and no one output the confirmation pages. I feel guilty because I should have remembered to check what was going on with it sooner, when I noticed that it hadn't been put in the tray to be xeroxed. But then I was busy standing in the copy room with my 70 million articles. :(

Anyway, I'm not sure I even want to go in tomorrow because I'm kinda afraid of what the customer will say when they realize they didn't get their pages on time.

I need to go find something to cheer me up. Or possibly go to sleep...

I do not even recognize Orgrimmar at all anymore. This is crazy. o_O

I keep getting disconnected every time I try and log into my characters in the Eastern Kingdom though. That's kinda annoying. I'll have to look on the help forums I guess to see if anyone else has the same problem.

I still don't understand why they decided to have the Shattering now. Kinda makes the actual expansion release seem rather anticlimatic... Still, it's nice to have a change at last I guess. Even though it's kinda hilarious how everyone apparently rebuilt their cities in less than a day. XD

I also love how the Pilgrim's Bounty tables are unaffected by the Cataclysm. Who cares about the apocolypse when there's turkey to eat! ;)
the_abcs_of_justice: (Merlin's pants!)
So, I went to see Deathly Hallows tonight with the family and it was pretty awesome! They always do such a great job of capturing the feel of the setting in the movies and I think this time they left in pretty much every major plot point too. Of course since they are splitting it into two parts they obviously have more leeway to do that than the previous movies did. :)

But yeah, everything was very well done. All the fight scenes were great and the emotional scenes too. Dobby's death got me choked up and Hedwig's, and that scene at Godric's Hollow with the old lady was really friggin creepy. Yeah, I jumped when Nagini came out of her even though I knew it would happen. That's how creepy it was. o_O

I also loved how they handled the story about the three brothers and the Deathly Hallows. That was some pretty awesome looking stylized animation there.

The infiltration of the Ministry of Magic was fantastic, and even humorous too despite the seriousness of the situation. I'm glad they were still able to work in some funny moments throughout the movie, like Ron freaking out over his wife being questioned in the basement and Harry reminding him that he doesn't have a wife. xD

I'm kinda disappointed that they didn't keep the scene at the beginning where Harry and the Dursleys part and Dudley is actually nice to him and all. And that last moment between Harry and Petunia was rather touching in the book. But the way that the movie did do it was still pretty effective I think. They really kept the sense that this was the last time Harry, Ron, and Hermione might ever see their homes or families. And seeing Hermione cast Obliviate on her parents was rather painful and sad. :(

Now I really can't wait for part 2 to come out!
the_abcs_of_justice: (HP - stay)
Just watched the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows trailer again. I want to see this movie now like burning. LIKE BURNING I SAY. And I'm not even much of a movie goer, so that's saying something! I guess that's one reason to try and pry myself out of the house soon then.

Hard to believe that the franchise really is finally coming to an end though. And to think that I used to scoff at it's popularity and wonder what people saw in it. LOL, I'm kinda stupid sometimes. ^_^;
